Nexus Protectorate

_The Nexus holds. The line does not move._ The Nexus Protectorate is the Expanse's lawful power, holding Helios Nexus — the Expanse's only pulsar — and both doors that seal the secured Expanse from the wider dark beyond. Where the Crimson Corsairs treat the Expanse as a waystation, the Protectorate treats it as a cradle worth the cost of holding, sector by sector, for as long as it takes to earn the right to expand.

Creed

The Protectorate proves its authority the only way that cannot be faked: not by decree, but by patrols. Presence is the whole doctrine — a sector is Protectorate territory because a Protectorate garrison is standing in it, not because a map says so. Against the Corsairs, that garrison does not wait at the threshold; it stands a jump past it, so that every sector held is a sector the Corsairs cannot work from.

Structure

Human-led but not human-only, the Protectorate recruits across all three peoples in numbers close to the Corsairs' own — the split between the two factions is a disagreement about purpose, not an ethnic line. Its own strength scales directly with the ground it actually secures: the more contested a sector, the heavier the Protectorate's presence in it, and the less secure a sector is, the thinner that presence gets, down to nothing at the edge of the deep dark.

Notable Elements

That same logic gives the Protectorate its clearest limit. Where presence cannot reach, authority cannot follow — which is exactly where the deep dark begins, and exactly why the Corsairs found room to survive there at all. The Protectorate's elite guardian, Warden Kael, embodies the doctrine literally: anchored at Helios Nexus, in the very sector where new commanders begin, he never patrols and never moves. He is not a target to hunt down — he is the line that does not move, standing permanent watch over the one sector the Protectorate can least afford to lose.

Everything in the Codex is part of a galaxy you can actually command.
