Warden Kael

Warden Kael is the Nexus Protectorate's elite guardian, anchored at Helios Nexus — the Ethereal Expanse's only pulsar, its starter system, and the sector every new commander begins in. He embodies the Protectorate's doctrine literally: he never patrols and never moves, because "the line does not move" is not a slogan here, it is simply where he is, every time anyone looks.

A monument, not a boss

Elites never patrol in this galaxy, so Kael's stillness is not restraint, it is the doctrine itself made visible: authority earned through presence means a sector is Protectorate territory because a garrison is standing in it, and Kael is that garrison at the one sector the Protectorate can least afford to lose. He flies the same Korrun hull as the Crimson Skiff Raider — fire 8, shield 16, hull 40 against the Raider's fire 1, shield 4, hull 10. Same fixture, opposite mass: where the Protectorate concentrates its whole strength at a single point, the Crimson Corsairs disperse theirs across the entire frontier. No quest sends a commander against him; he is the line, not a target.

The argument, in miniature

Kael and the Crimson Skiff Raider are the two ideological powers each distilled into a single ship — a fortress and a skirmisher, built from the same hull to make the same point two different ways. Where the Raider is deliberately winnable, a green pilot's first taste of combat, Kael is deliberately not: he stands permanent watch over Helios Nexus precisely because the Protectorate cannot afford to be tested there, and its own doctrine — "authority earned through presence" — prices the deep dark out of its reach for the exact same reason it keeps this one sector absolute.

Every other elite in the galaxy can be found somewhere else tomorrow. Warden Kael cannot. That is the point of him.
