Mechanics

The minimap is the fastest way to see where your fleets are and where you can send them next. Opened from the toolbar without leaving whatever screen you are already on, it stacks three views in one panel — the sectors of your current system, the systems of your current region, and the regions of the wider galaxy — each drawn on the same 3x3 grid the universe itself is built on, so you can read your position at any scale and jump straight to a destination with a click.

Commander creation is your first order: choose a universe, a people, and a face, then launch three kibby mining tugs at Helios Nexus with 50 credits and a first contract. The commander you commission carries a designation unique to its universe, and is yours to refit or dismiss later — never duplicated.

Sector movement means ordering a ship across a system's 3x3 grid, watching it advance one sector every 5-second tick, guided by the presence rule.

Extraction is how you mine an asteroid belt: one ore unit into your hold every three ticks, climbing a six-mineral ladder from sand to voidglass.

Station trading, buying and selling, resolves the instant you confirm it, no tick wait; a ship anywhere in the system can buy at its stations, eight tradeable goods move at the counter alongside the ore, and a station's repair bay puts a damaged hull back to full for credits.

Combat drains shields before hull, rolls a chance for a critical hit or a critical miss on every shot, spills cargo from destroyed ships into a container that will not last forever, limits return fire to armed ships with riposte on, and rarely spares an unescorted miner.

Contracts post at every station's board: repeatable freight, sales, and hunt jobs worth a few credits up to well over a thousand, cargo lost if your ship is.

Autopilot plots up to five waypoints, lets your ship route itself through gates one step per tick, and loops the route into a hands-free patrol.

Fleets auto-group ships sharing a region, system, sector, type, and status; any ship can opt out to fly solo, and armed ships can assist in a fight.

Gate travel jumps a ship between systems and lands it next tick, one of 198 gates across the galaxy, with only two exits from the safe Ethereal Expanse.

Your bridge shows four live displays: the sector view, ship telemetry, the captain's log, and the contracts journal — everything a commander needs mid-tick.

Every commander stands somewhere with the Nexus Protectorate and the Crimson Corsairs — a standing that starts neutral, moves with every kill you take and every contract you finish, and quietly decides who trades with you, who opens fire on sight, and who calls you one of their own.

Attacking another commander turns you into a pirate in every universe the game runs — draw first blood and the power that would have protected your victim turns against you while their rival welcomes you as one of its own, and make a habit of it and the police stop waiting for a reason, human stations shut their doors, and the raiders start treating you like family.

The skill tree turns every level past the first into one point to spend across four doctrines and twelve branches, five ranks deep, with no credits and no cooldown standing between a build and a respec.

Your commander levels up from experience earned in combat and contracts, one skill point at a time on a curve that climbs faster with every step; your fleet's toughness is read a different way entirely, as a Power rating computed straight from each ship's fire, shield and hull, the same number shown for every player, sentinel and Corsair alike.

Tournament runs the same nine-region, eighty-one-system galaxy as the MMO, as a Premium, one-hour timed season: harsher combat, faster respawns and a richer start, followed by a full universe reset the moment the clock runs out, leaving only a permanent leaderboard entry behind.

Corporations are player-founded guilds, one roster per universe: found one for free, and its tag flies before your name everywhere in the game, from the radar to the leaderboard.

The Broadcast tab of your Captain's Journal opens onto a board shared by everyone playing your universe: open a thread, reply to another commander's, and page back through everything that came before.

An order ledger is a commander's own line in an administrative order's books — a running record of reliability built through the dealings you actually complete with it, never a roster entry, never a faction, never a credit rating, and never a licence. The Astral Consortium is the first order to keep one on a commander, and it runs completely apart from your standing with the Nexus Protectorate and the Crimson Corsairs: nothing you do for an order ever moves that scale, in either direction.

Achievements are a running record of everything a pilot has accomplished, kept against your account rather than any single commander: earn one with any commander, in any universe, and it stays unlocked forever, even if that commander is later dismissed. Some also grant a title any commander of the account can wear.
