Rustjaw Chancer

The Rustjaw Chancer is a debt-ridden opportunist out of the Crimson Corsairs, who slipped alone out of Rustjaw Den hoping to pick off a lone straggler in Wraith Halo and pay down what he owes the Den before anyone there notices he is gone. He is no captain and commands no crew — a minor figure the Wayfarer Concordat's own instructors have long since flagged as the safest real fight a new commander will ever draw.

A name, not a rank

Where the Crimson Skiff Raider carries the frontier's honest-hunt creed, Dralvok to the bone, the Chancer carries something plainer: a debt. He is human, role: reaver by choice rather than blood — proof, in miniature, that the split between the Nexus Protectorate and the Crimson Corsairs runs through people, not races. He tipped over not for a creed but for what he owes.

Where he hunts

He flies out of Rustjaw Den, on Cinder Spur, but the debt sends him further than the Den's own shelter: Wraith Halo, one hop past Ferrous Cradle in Crimson Sector, a lawless system with no lawful station of its own. He flies a stripped-down Novik — weaker on every stat than the fresh hull the Concordat hands a new commander for exactly this fight.

The third training contract

The Chancer is the target of the Concordat's third training contract, sent from Krakken's Halt out past the hot door for a new commander's first real kill — not a duel with Concordat staff, a genuine hostile. He is a different beat from the standing, repeatable First Blood bounty against the Crimson Skiff Raider at Ferrous Cradle: a solo drifter one hop further into lawless space, found only by the commanders this one scripted contract sends there.

A name on a bounty board reads like glory. Up close, the Chancer is just a man out past his depth, hoping nobody at the Den is counting the days he's been gone.

Everything in the Codex is part of a galaxy you can actually command.
